Brussels, 03/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has the cleared project for a joint venture for UK drinks distribution between the UK brewery group Scottish & Newcastle ('S&N') and Kuehne+Nagel Logistics Ltd ('K+N'). Scottish & Newcastle's brands include Foster's, John Smith's, Kronenbourg 1664, Strongbow, McEwan's and Newcastle Brown Ale. K+N Logistics Limited, part of the Swiss-based Kuehne+Nagel Group, is a contract logistics provider operating in the UK, mainly in the retail, telecommunications and industrial and consumer goods industries. Whilst the joint venture will initially handle distribution predominantly for S&N's products, the parties' intention is for the joint venture to grow by increasingly offering drinks distribution services to third parties. On the basis of the Commission's investigation, it concluded that the joint venture will not raise competition concerns in the markets concerned, given the very limited relationships between the two parent companies.
