With first chapter provisionally closed, Olli Rehn puts pressure on Ankara regarding customs union compliance

Brussels, 13/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - As pointed out earlier (EUROPE 9209), Turkey and Croatia opened and provisionally closed EU membership talks on the first chapter - science and research - in Luxembourg shortly before midnight Monday. The Turkish foreign minister, Abdullah Gül, told the press with delight that it had been a “red-letter day”.
