ThyssenKrupp and EADS takeover Atlas Elektronik

Brussels, 11/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 10 May the European Commission approved the proposed acquisition of the German naval electronics supplier Atlas Elektronik by ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG and EADS Deutschland. Atlas Elektronik formerly owned by UK defence company BAE Systems, is a supplier of naval and civil electronics, sonar systems, torpedoes and mine systems for submarines and naval vessels, as well as maritime safety systems for civilian applications. The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction, leading to a vertical integration of a formerly independent supplier of TKT, would not significantly impede effective competition. The market investigation, revealed that already before the proposed takeover, Atlas sold the majority of its products to TKT. The change brought about by the proposed takeover would, therefore, remain limited. Other shipyards would not be deprived of access to naval electronics: many of these companies also have integrated activities.
