11/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Greens/EFA Group at the European Parliament has reacted very negatively to the ideas relating to the future of Europe put forward on 10 May by the European Commission (EUROPE 9189). It is very disappointing that the Commission should again avoid addressing the current problems of the Constitution, Monica Frassoni, Co-President, said in a press release. She pointed out that they do note the Commission's commitment to fully exploit the existing treaties but that this cannot replace a constitutional solution to the institutional problems that hamper an enlarged EU. British Green member Caroline Lucas, on the other hand, felt it was an “affront to democracy” to want to bring back a Constitution that has been rejected by two countries.
