03/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - The US Department of Transportation (DOT) could postpone the adoption of a provision by several weeks, which aims to amend US legislation on ownership and control of US airlines. This comes about following concerns expressed by some members of the US Congress. This was announced at the end of April by US Secretary of State for Transport Jeffrey Shane during a conference on aviation at The Hague. This would also mean that the signing of the aviation agreement between the EU and US (planned for June during the EU/US Summit) would also be pushed back given that amendment of the US legislation in question is indispensable in the eyes of the Europeans for signing the agreement, the negotiations for which were concluded at the end of last year (EUROPE 9176).
