Brussels, 11/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health voted on Wednesday to ease measures to combat classical swine fever which has afflicted the German Land of North-Rhine Westphalia. To avoid animal welfare problems which result in animal overcrowding on some farms within the surveillance zones, a decision has been taken allowing pigs to be moved within the zones. Before being moved, however, pigs must undergo special clinical and laboratory testing to ensure they are not incubating the disease. All other measures adopted last week are to remain in force until 15 may 2006.
