22/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, MEP André Brie (GUE/NGL, Germany) strongly attacks the announcement from the German Trade Minister, Social-Democrat Franz Müntefering that he intends to maintain restrictions to the Federal Republic's labour market for workers from Central and Eastern European Member States (at a time when, following the example of the UK, Ireland and Sweden, which have never limited access, Spain, Portugal, Finland and the Netherlands have recently announced that they were lifting temporary restrictions). The PDS MEP suggests that, faced with fear of “competition from low wages”, a minimum wage should be introduced, if not in Europe at least in Germany.
