Brussels, 21/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - EU Foreign Affairs Ministers have affirmed their support for a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Sudan, based on the successful implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and a political solution to the conflict in Darfur, where the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation remains extremely worrying. Meeting in Brussels on Monday, the External Relations Council, as planned, adopted conclusions for relaying this message and welcoming the decision taken on 10 March by the Peace and Security Council of the African Union to extend the mandate of AMIS II mission by a further six months and to set a framework for a transition from AMIS to a UN peacekeeping operation in Darfur (EUROPE 9154).
