Brussels, 21/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Speaking on behalf of the Commission on 21 March on the occasion of the International Day against Racism, the European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, Franco Frattini, condemned all forms of racism and xenophobia. In a press release, he recalled the Commission's firm commitment to work with the Council and European Parliament to achieve this objective as soon as possible. Mr Frattini recalls that the Austrian EU Presidency is organising a seminar with the Commission and the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia in Vienna from 20 to 22 June 2006, on the “criminal aspects of racism that will focus on discussion of the proposed Framework Decision on combating racism and xenophobia”. The Commission has also suggested transforming the Vienna Observatory into a European Agency for Fundamental Rights, Mr Frattini notes in his press release.
