Brussels, 21/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Liaison Committee for Social Housing (CECODHAS) is organising a Roundtable on 30 March in Brussels at the European Parliament, with the support of the Urban/housing intergroup of the European Parliament, on the theme of “The European Economy and Social Housing: How the sector can support the fulfilment of the Lisbon agenda.” Participants will include: the President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) Michel Delebarre, Vice-president of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Roger Briesch, the director of DG Ecofin at the European Commission Jan Host Schmidt, as well as MEPs such as the Dutch liberal Sophia in'T Veld. Angelo Grasso, President of CECODHAS, will introduce and conclude the work. Laurent Ghekière, Representative of the Union sociale pour l'Habitat to the EU, will provide an analysis of national reform plans and the European economic context from the point of view of social housing policies. Other themes to be explored include: - is employment mobility encouraged by increasing access to home ownership? - Is it realistic to imagine a unified mortgage market? - What are the impacts of housing policies on the fight against exclusion?
