17/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a resolution adopted in Strasbourg with a view to the eighth conference of parties to the convention on biological diversity (COP 8 - 20 to 31 March 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil), Parliament invites the EU to: - play a driving role in adopting concrete measures for the protection of biological diversity at internal level and internationally; - fix specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and global objectives for reviewing the biodiversity objective in 2010; - accelerate application of the Convention's decisions on the biological diversity of forests; - and allocate more means to the establishment of a global network of protected areas by 2010 for land areas and by 2012 for maritime areas.
