After China (see EI on 15 February), ARCELOR will be taking root in Morocco where it is gearing up to take over a 50% stake in the SONASID - SOCIETE NATIONALE DE SIDERURGIE, group, the number one steel company in Morocco, with a production capacity of around 1.4 million tonnes a year with a turnover of around 374 millions euros in 2004. ARCELOR already had a 7.50% stake in SONASID. The amount for investment has not been disclosed but is thought to be close to 205 million euros.
