Brussels, 02/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - On the initiative of French Green MEP Helene Flautre, President of the European Parliament's human rights sub-committee, a conference will be held at the EP in Brussels at the EP on 7 March on freedom of expression (speech) and media independence. Participants include Philippe Val, chief editor of Charlie hebdo (a French satirical magazine), Wassylia Tamzali, an Algerian lawyer working for 'Manifeste des libertes' organisation, Birgitte Kofod Olsen of the Danish Human Rights Institute, Shada Islam, reporter at German press agency DPA and correspondent in Brussels for Asian newspapers, and Nawab Khan, reporter at Iranian press agency IRNA. The issue will also be discussed at the next plenary of the EuroMed Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels on 27 March.
