Brussels, 24/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - Road safety, which is a priority of the Austrian Presidency, will be the only topic for discussion at the informal meeting of EU Transport Ministers in Bregenz, Austria, on 2 and 3 March. According to the programme, published on the Presidency website, the meeting will open on 2 March with the introduction of the new Austrian road safety campaign. Ministers will then begin their first working session, which will be based on two presentations: the mid-term review of the European Road Safety Action Programme (see EUROPE 9135) by Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot, and the results of a high-level expert meeting on infrastructure and road safety, held in Vienna on 24 and 25 January, by Austrian Transport Minister Hubert Gorbach. The afternoon will be devoted to the latest technological trends and innovations in the area of road safety. On 3 March, concentration will be on road safety awareness campaigns within the EU with, first of all, the presentation and evaluation of national road safety campaigns and then a debate on a 'Joint EU road safety campaign”.
