08/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympics Committee (IOC) introduced the Committee session on the 7 February in Turin, which precedes the launch on 10 February of the 20th Winter Olympic Games in Piemonte. These games, which have been organised with particular regard to environmental protection, as recently explained by Mercedes Bresso (former MEP) and the president of the Piemonte Region to the press. At this event president Rogge indicated that in an effort to step up the fight against doping there would be a 72% increase in drug tests at the Turin games that there was at the games in Salt Lake City. He also welcomed the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation to apply “new strict rules against this brutal game”.
