Caroline Lucas lambasts Blair government on aviation taxation

Brussels, 08/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - MEP Caroline Lucas, who is currently drafting a report for the European Parliament examining the impact of aviation on climate change attacks the position of the British government on the introduction of an aviation taxes to reduce the negative effect of air transport on the environment. Tony Blair told the House of Commons that he did not think this would be feasible, says the British Green in a press release. She claims that this “puts the lie to Mr Blair's much-hyped 'green credentials'”. Aviation is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases and is already responsible for more than five per cent of all the EU's emissions, warns the MEP, pointing out that the number of air passengers in the UK alone is expected to triple by 2030.
