Brussels, 17/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot told the European Parliament plenary session, “We are determined to end” taxes that European airline companies have to pay to Russia to be able to fly over Siberia. The Commissioner, who promised to be firm and who stressed the urgency of the situation, said this was a pre-condition for the conclusion of an air agreement with Russia. “We have to find a solution before Russia joins the WTO”, Mr Barrot told MEPs, who gave him their support, during a debate on the EU's external policy in the area of aviation (and to which EUROPE will return).
