Conference on the state of Europe

Brussels, 17/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - 'Les Realites europeennes du present' chaired by Harmut Marhold is organising a conference in Brussels on 3/4 February on the Austrian Presidency's perspectives on what to do for the European Union today. On Friday, Jo Leinen, President of the European Parliament's Constitutional Committee, will speak on prospects for getting out of the current crisis, while former Polish minister Jan Kulakowski MEP will speak on the future of the EU as seen from Brussels and Warsaw. Hartmut Marhold will speak on Angela Merkel, Germany and the EU, and Jean-Jacques Rey of the Ligue europenne de cooperation economique will speak on Economic and Monetary Union. In a discussion chaired on Saturday by Bruno Boissiere, Secretary General of 'Realities' and the federalist intergroup at the European Parliament, MEP Pierre Jonckheer will discuss the challenges facing the EU from full-scale globalisation. Jean-Pierre Gouzy, former President of 'Realites' will lead a roundtable discussion on the current constitutional debate.
