Brussels, 17/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 17 January, the Council adopted by written procedure a regulation imposing definitive anti-dumping measures in the form of a minimum import price of 2.89 EUR/kilo on imports of farmed salmon from Norway. This minimum price, which has been in place provisionally since July 2005, had been agreed by the EU and the Norwegian authorities in a friendly agreement reached in June last (see EUROPE 8973). The measure follows a vast anti-dumping inquiry conducted by the Commission in 2004 and which resulted, on 27 April 2005, in the introduction of additional customs rights of between 6.8 and 24.5%. In July, these duties had been replaced by the minimum import price which has the advantage of not adding further costs to those of Norwegian producers, while protecting the European industry on a Community market already largely dominated by salmon imported from Norway (60%).
