Brussels, 06/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is to adopt, on 17 January, a communication for encouraging the development of river transport of goods within the European Union. In its multiannual action programme for 2007-2013, the Commission plans to focus on five key sectors relating to river transport: - the services provided, the fleet, crews, the image of such transport and infrastructure. The aim of the programme is to create favourable conditions for river transport services and to attract new markets, encourage innovation of the fleet and modernise it, attract new labour and increase investment in human capital, and also provide an adequate river transport infrastructure.
