16/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - A ministerial conference on EuroMed transport cooperation opened in Morocco on 15 December, the day after an EU-Morocco aviation agreement was initialled by EU Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot and Moroccan transport minister Karim Ghellab. The agreement will bring existing bilateral agreements into line with EU rules and boost cooperation in applying safety, security and air traffic control rules, while opening aviation to greater competition on both sides. The EU is also cooperating with Morocco in satellite radio navigation (GNSS) and at the conference in Marrakech Barrot will be signing a statement on Morocco's involvement in the EU satellite navigation system Galileo, ahead of an official agreement next year.
