16/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - The joint EU-Switzerland Transport Committee met in Brussels on 15 December to discuss the adoption by Switzerland of various bits of EU legislation, including the second rail package and the Interoperability Directive, including changing Swiss railways to fit with EU railways. The Committee also discussed progress in establishing a joint EU-Switzerland transport monitoring department, to be known as the 'Transport Observatory'. The committee decided that road freight transport between Switzerland, EU Member States and EEA and EFTA states, currently governed by a quota system, will now be fully liberalised.
