Brussels, 29/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 2 December in Brussels, the Party of European Socialists (PES) will be holding its first working session for its project entitled: “A New Social Europe”. Jointly run by the former president of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, and PES President Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, the initiative aims to find a new Socialist vision for social Europe “so that social security and competitiveness, growth and jobs can go hand in hand well into the 21st century”. The initiative provides for three forums on: (1) the inclusive society, (2) the active society, (3) and the European Dimension. Forums will be held at least three times during the first half of 2006. A final report will be submitted to the PES Congress in October 2006. In addition to Presidents Delors and Rasmussen, participants at the working session on Friday will include EP President Josep Borell, MEP Zita Gurmai, Social Affairs Commissioner Vladimir Spidla and his predecessor Anna Diamantopoulou, and ministers from Britain and Sweden, Stephen Timms (Labour and Pensions) and Hans Karlsson (Labour), as well as the director of the European Trade Union Institute, Henning Jorgensen.
