Strasbourg, 17/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament is calling for far-reaching plans to reconstitute eel stocks in Europe, adopting a report on 15 November by Albert Jan Maat (EPP-ED, Netherlands) on eel management. It endorsed the European Commission's recent legislative proposal foreseeing banning eel fishing in the first fortnight of each month until the Member States adopt their national eel management plans (see Europe 9043).
