17/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - At a press conference in Brussels on Thursday, US assistant secretary of state for European affairs, Daniel Fried, said the EU should not try to be a counterweight to the United States in international politics, but should focus on strengthening transatlantic relations to be better able to face international political challenges together. Fried said Europe and the United States were partners, not counterweights. Europe will return to this.
