Brussels, 25/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has decided to order repayment of EUR 2.4 million in subsidies to the Finnish company, Componenta Corporation. Based in Karkkila, Finland, Componenta Corporation manufactures ready-to-install cast, geared and machined components. In 2004, the Commission had received a complaint alleging that the city of Karkkila's purchase of Componenta's stake in the real estate company, Karkkilan Keskustakiinteistöt Oy, for the sum of EUR 2.4 million, constituted State aid. The town already held 50% of the company that went bankrupt. According to the complainant, the amount paid was too high. After its inquiry, the Commission considers the amount paid out by the Finnish town was indeed higher than the price that a private investor would normally have paid and considered that the transaction was a hidden subsidy without prior Commission authorisation.
