Brussels, 24/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - A number of provisions of a 2004 Council Regulation and a 2005 Council Decision will apply from 1 January 2006. They relate to the attribution of certain new functions to the Schengen Information System (SIS), including in the context of anti-terrorism. Both acts amend certain provisions of the 1990 Schengen Convention and attribute a number of new functions to the Schengen Information System (SIS) in order to fight more effectively against terrorist activity. (Decisions 2005/727/JHA and 2005/728/JHA fixing the date for application of some new provisions and functions for the SIS are published in the Official Journal (JO) L273 of 19 October 2005 and took effect on 12 October 2005).
