Brussels, 24/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - In Strasbourg on Tuesday, the European Commission will be adopting its 2005 regular report on Bulgaria and Romania, which are scheduled to join the EU on 1 January 2007. The European Commission is expected to issue a new warning to the two countries' governments under the safeguard clauses in the Accession Treaty, their accession can be postponed for a year (until 2008) if there are delays in implementing the required reforms. The Commission is expected to point out that more work is urgently needed in areas like combatting corruption, the functioning of the legal and administrative systems, border control and the administrative structures required to manage the use of EU funding.
