21/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - In his first appearance as new President of the SME UNION of the European People's Party in Brussels, Christoph Leitl put the fight for more growth and jobs at the forefront of the agenda of Europe's small and medium-sized business community: 'With an economic growth rate of 3 percent per year for each of the next five years, we have the possibility to create 10 million jobs by 2010. Let us not miss this chance,' he urges in a press release. He urged the European institutions to quickly resolve the current constitutional crisis: 'only the model of a strong political Union with the Commission acting like a government will allow Europe to cope successfully with today's challenges such as unemployment, low growth rates and globalisation.'
