20/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - Harlem Desir MEP (French Socialist) has requested an emergency meeting of the EU-Tunisia Association Council to look at constant and repeated violations of human rights in Tunisia, that have led eight eminent figureheads of democratic life and civil society in Tunisia to start a hunger strike on 18 October. Desir said one of the hunger strikers was Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, Secretary General of the Progressive Democratic Party.
