Brussels, 20/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said he would be recommending to the European Commission and Council of Ministers to open negotiations with Bosnia Herzegovina before the end of the year on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). Rehn was reacting to news that the federal Bosnian parliament had passed a law this week reforming the police force in Bosnia Herzegovina. The law has now been approved by the parliaments of both Bosnia Herzegovina's federal bodies (including the Republika Srpska which held out for a long time before assenting to the reforms), and the federal parliament. In a press release issued after his meeting in Brussels with Bosnian prime minister Adnan Terzic, Commissioner Rehn said: 'I welcome the recent progress on the police reform. I understand that the police restructuring (Agreement on Restructuring the Police Structures) has now been approved by both the Entity Parliaments and by the State Parliament. This is positive news and will allow me to recommend to the Commission and the Council to open the negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important that there is a proper follow-up to the police agreement.'
