Brussels, 20/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - Ahead of the Hampton Court Summit on 27 October, Tony Blair will be invited to Downing Street for a dinner on 26 October with the leaders of Europe's Socialist, Social Democrat and Labour Parties, including the prime ministers of Portugal, Jose Socrates, Goran Persson of Sweden, Jiri Paroubek of the Czech Republic, Ferenc Gyurcsany of Hungary and Algirdas Brazauskas of Lithuania, explains a press release from the PES (Party of European Socialists). Other leaders attending include Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, PES President; Josep Borrell, President of the European Parliament; Martin Schulz, President of the Socialist Group at the EP; and European Commissioners Joaquin Almunia, Peter Mandelson and Vladimir Spidla. They will discuss a 'Growth and Investment Strategy for Europe' and a PES initiative on The New Social Europe.
The European People's Party (EPP) chaired by Wilfried Martens has cancelled its pre-summit meeting.
