17/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat has been invited to meetings in Washington on 28 October by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. TAK press agency reports Talat as saying that any measures to listen and understand Turkish Cypriots are welcome, like this invitation. In the past, the US and the EU praised Turkish Cypriots for backing the Annan Plan in the April 2004 referendum on the reunification of Cyprus, but the Plan was rejected by Greek Cypriots.
