Commission clears joint acquisition of Baltic Grain Terminal

Brussels, 17/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of the Polish company BTZ by Wielkopolskie Zak³ady T³uszczowe ADM Szamotu³y (“ADM Szamotu³y”) and the Dutch company Cefetra. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it. BTZ is a cargo terminal service provider for grains and animal feed in the port of Gdynia, Poland. ADM Szamotu³y is wholly owned by ADM, a US-based group of companies engaged in the sector of agricultural commodities and products. ADM Szamotu³y is active in the production of oils, in particular rapeseed oil. Cefetra is a Dutch-based company active in trading compound feed raw materials. It has subsidiaries in Hungary, Poland and the UK. The transaction forms part of wider efforts by the Port Authority in Gdynia to privatise terminals under its ownership.
