06/09/2005 (Agence Europe) -Negotiations with Turkey will effectively be the first real enlargement negotiations, because the previous waves of accession (to the Community then to the European Union) were in fact the reunification of Europe, the co-president of the Greens/EFA group of the European Parliament, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, told the press on Tuesday. Speaking to the press the same day, also in Strasbourg, the president of the EPP-ED group, Hans-Gert Pöttering, said that it was a very god thing that the vote on the Brok report on the signature by Ankara of the protocol to the EU/Turkey Customs union had been postponed to the September session: before we give this our approval, we want to know the legal value of Turkey's declaration that the signature does not mean that it recognises the Republic of Cyprus, he explained.
