Brussels, 19/08/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 18 August, the British Presidency issued a declaration on behalf of the European Union on the situation facing Tajik refugees in Turkmenistan, noting that the EU is encouraged by the announcement by the Turkmenistan authorities on 4 August that around 16,000 refugees fleeing the civil war in Tajikistan have been granted Turkmenistan citizenship and permanent right to remain in Turkmenistan.
