19/08/2005 (Agence Europe) - Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Young People, took part in the World Youth Days in Cologne (visited by Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday), explains a Commission press release. The press release explains that as requested by the European Parliament in February, the Commission is co-funding (EUR 1.5 million) logistics, board and lodging fro around 20,000 volunteers involved in organising the World Youth Day. The press release adds that the funding was granted as part of measures to promote European values, solidarity and active citizenship.
