27/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday France notified the European Commission of a confirmed case of “Newcastle disease” in a pheasant and partridge farm in the Loire-Atlantique region. This virus affecting poultry does not threaten human health and can be detected in birds via digestive and respiratory problems and a high death rate among the birds. Since the declaration regarding the suspected disease, the French authorities have called for slaughter of infected animals. Poultry within a radius of 3 kilometres from the outbreak are in quarantine. Restrictions on transport of poultry in a 10 KM radius of the pheasant farm.
