Brussels, 22/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The committee of senior officials responsible for following through the security policy dossier in the Barcelona process is to meet on 26 July in Brussels as part of the programme of regular meetings. Discussions will mainly focus on the fight against terrorism with contributions from the various countries engaged in the EuroMed process. There is thus reason to believe that Sweden and Jordan intend to share their experience of transposing international conventions in this field into their respective bodies of law. The senior officials are also expected to take stock of the discussions already conducted by expert groups. Furthermore, the senior officials will meet again the next day in committee for overall monitoring of the process, and they should, on this occasion, hear the vice-president of the EIB (European Investment Bank) report on the recent decision and content of the debates that were held between the Euro-Mediterranean ministers for the economy and finance in June, in Morocco, and the ministerial meeting of the FEMIP held in parallel. The committee will also take stock of the different recent activities (civil protection crisis management, Euromed Heritage) and of the preparation of an ad hoc meeting on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as on the question of mine clearance, the date of which has still to be set. Spain and France reportedly intend to present an unofficial document on the theme: “Justice, Security, Social Integration and Migration”.
