Rocard report to be debated on Tuesday morning

Brussels, 01/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - Five members of the British government will attend the European Parliament in Strasbourg next week: Jack Straw, Foreign Secretary, Hillary Benn, secretary of State for International development, Douglas Alexander, secretary of State for Europe, Alun Michael, secretary of State for industry, and John Prescott, Deputy Prime Minister (for bilateral talks). The debate on the report by French Socialist Michel Rocard on the patentability of computer-developed inventions has now been brought forward to 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning (instead of 3 p.m.), with a vote planned for Wednesday, and the examination of the report by British Liberal Democrat Diana Wallis on the law applicable to non-contractual obligations (Rome II) will take place on Tuesday afternoon. The report by Gabriele Zimmer (GUE-NGL, Germany) on the impact of the European Community's loan activities in developing countries, will be discussed in the Wednesday evening session, as will that of Sophia in't Veld (ALDE, Netherlands) on the EU/Canada agreement on the handling of data relative to anticipated passenger information. This will coincide with a declaration by the Commission on the implementation of the Community action plan FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade). The reports by Jöns (on a Community employment and social Solidarity programme- PROGRESS) and Pittella (on the consultation to precede the first reading of the budget 2006 by the Council), on the other hand, disappear altogether from the agenda.
