Brussels, 22/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - Like the United Kingdom, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland and the Czech Republic, Poland has decided to postpone its referendum on the European Constitution- initially planned for October- indefinitely. "A referendum will take place in Poland, but its date is not yet clear", President Aleksander Kwasniewski told the press on Tuesday, after his consultations with Prime Minister Marek Belka and the President of the Parliament, Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz. "A referendum this October is unrealistic", added Mr Kwasniewski (whose term of Presidency is due to end this autumn). "The decision will be up to my successor and, in my opinion, it will not be taken this year", he said. After the no vote in France and the Netherlands, support for the Constitution has fallen from 54% to 40% in Poland, according to an opinion poll.
