22/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The International Council of the Assembly of Wine-Producing Regions (AREV), meeting in Aoste, Italy, on 11 and 12 June, unanimously elected as its new president Luis Durnwalder, who is the president of the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige, who takes over from Arlindo Cunha, the former president of the Portuguese Region Norte, according to a press release. AREV states that the delegates of some 60 wine-producing regions of Europe unanimously adopted "a strong resolution aiming to relaunch the reform of the CMO for wine in order to offset the crisis which has hit many European regions, particularly since Europe has been hit by the ever-increasing competition from relatively new wine-producing countries such as Australia, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and California".
