EP supports transition to democracy but remains cautious ahead of 10 July presidential elections

Strasbourg, 13/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia. On Kyrgyzstan, the EP reaffirmed its commitment to support the current process of transition to democracy since the overthrow of President Askar Akaiev by the opposition on 24 March 2005 (since 5 April, the former prime minister, Kurmanbek Bakiev, has been temporary president, Ed.).
