Neelie Kroes advocates accelerated competition reform to avoid postponing accession till 2008

Brussels, 13/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - On a visit to Romania, the Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes, recalled on Thursday that the Commission would not hesitate to recommend that the Council should use a special safeguard clause allowing accession to the EU to be postponed by one year (till January 2008), if Bucharest is not able to implement acquis communautaire.
