It is edited by Thomas Herdegen at the Institute of Pharmacology of the University of Kiel in Germany and José M. Delgado-Garcia of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Seville in Spain, and attempts to bridge the world of fundamental research and clinical research in order to aid new discoveries about the brain. It is thus a response to a gap that is considered by some to be the main reason for the lack of therapeutic innovations in this field. The 721-page book is the result of work carried out under a COST action (B-10) and deals with neuron function, migration phenomena and regeneration, and also has specific chapters on, for example, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Its concluding chapter deals with the legal implications of treatment choices and is succeeded by very a useful glossary and index.
