Green light for Holcim to buy Aggregate Industries

Brussels, 15/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has given the green light to the takeover of Aggregate Industries by the British Holcim Participations, which has its headquarters in Switzerland. Holcim Participation is a subsidiary of the Holcim Group, which makes cement, concrete and aggregates, and Aggregate, which is based in the UK, is present across the board in construction products. Upon examination, the Commission found that the overlaps were limited and would raise no competition issues, either in the UK (grey cement) or the Netherlands (pre-cast concrete). Also, although Aggregate provides aggregates to the ready-mix concrete industry on the German market, where Holcim is present, this link would not cause any anti-competitive effects, it states.
