11/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the ECOFIN Council approved a draft decision by the Joint Committee of the European Economic Area (EEA) amending technical regulations, standards, tests and certificates established by EEA Accord 5265/05. The decision enables Iceland to have the same derogation as ultra-peripheral regions covered by Directive 2004/12/EC concerning packaging and packaging waste. It takes account of the special geographic situation of Iceland, its low and widely dispersed population and rural structure.
