Brussels, 09/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the EU Security Policy Committee (Cops) approved the appointment of Stephen White from Britain to the Head of the EU Rule of Law mission in Iraq. White was born in Northern Ireland and in December 2004-January 2005 became senior police expert for the EU team in Iraq to assess the country's post-war needs. At the time he recommended that Member States support the rule of law in Iraq by training Iraqi judges and police officers. From July 2003-January 2004 he was responsible for establishing southern Iraq's regional police training academy as part of the Coalition Provisional Authority's programme in Basra.
