09/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Green/ALE group in the European Parliament is in favour of an increase in the EU budget for culture, and supports the proposal from the Fondation européenne de la culture and the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage to go from 7 to 70 eurocents per year per citizen granted to culture. Daniel Cohn-Bendit, the co-President of the group, will take part in the launch of the campaign “70 cents for Culture” on 15 March at the European Parliament in Brussels, accompanied by major European figures from the world of culture and the European trade unions. The Council is due to decide this year to confirm or modify the Commission proposal to grant the programme “Culture 2007” a budget of 400 million euros (compared with 167 million for “Culture 2000”).
