Brussels, 01/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The MEP Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, president of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and former Danish Prime Minister commented on the decision to hold a referendum in Denmark on 27 September on the European Constitution by noting that “this leaves plenty of time to debate the changes the Constitution will bring about”. “It is important that all citizens of the countries holding referendums express their opinion (…). We recommend a yes vote and we intend to play an important part in the information exchange” between Member States, he said in a statement, adding: we must learn from the campaign carried out in Spain by José Luis Zapatero which resulted in a “yes” at the referendum of 20 February (the first in the EU: see EUROPE of 22 February, p.3).
